I rarely paint my nails. I can’t sit still for that long, and I cannot do anything left-handed. Except count cash – can’t do that the way most right-handers do – isn’t that WEIRD? But nail polish is one of those things that you find yourself amassing against all odds. It’s relatively cheap, they come in all sorts of colors and finishes, and they are as seasonal as clothing. Which brings me to my point: I go batshit collecting fall colors and leave little room for spring colors.
The dreary weather has me dreaming of Mediterranean hues and coordinating outfits: bright lemon, azure blue, leafy green, and a sandy stone. I’d pair these colors with breezy fabrics and organic textures. But since I cannot jet to Dalmatia, I’ll just paint my digits yellow, then green, then blue. By the time I get around to blue, it’ll be fall again.
Luckily, some drug store brands perform just as well as higher priced ones. I’ve been so impressed with Essie nail color. Plus, I love dipping into drugstores to see the pop-up cosmetic displays. I feel like I’m at my own personal trade show, but no one pressures me or gives me promotional crap that I don’t want but feel compelled to take because I was also given a reusable bag to put all this cheap logo’d crap in. So the eco-friendly bag now ironically drives me to consume more. Ugh.
Anywho, I’ve used several Essie colors: all of which remained lovely for a week.
Many years ago, I tried Butter London’s Tea with the Queen, which I referred to as Tee up the Quease because it made my skin look so sallow. I removed it promptly and never since tried the brand. But I may be ready to jump back aboard with Cheeky Chops!
Deborah Lippmann, on the other hand, has utterly disappointed me lately. I purchased two colors and a glitter top coat. The top coat is fine, but not amazing, and the colors remained beautiful for only a couple of days. I remember buying SJP’s color so many years ago when SATC was still hot. I LOVED it which makes my current experience so sad. For the DL price point, she needs to up her game a bit: or maybe I just got lemons?
Oooh, lemon!
