Color, Mrs. M!

Freshly rested this October monday from a whirlwind fashion show at my wee boutique last week. It was a success that I was jolly glad to get over with, and now I miss all the suspense. Cursed I am by attachment.

But this morning, I have doggie in my lap, coffee in my mug, and toffee in my tummy. All is right, and the Internet opens up to me like a giant oyster. I reviewed my fall wish lists and realize that I’m really missing something: color! Crafting 36 looks on models that are relatively the same size from a small consignment shop is a challenge, and I realized that a pop of color and/or sparkle really brought most everything together. Why am I not following these same rules?

Now, I layer on the challenge of finding the right pieces in the right colors. Below are some of fall’s hues that I crave and complimenting colors to add to the list:

  1. Oxblood – it’s dark, it’s everywhere, it’s almost a neutral.
Complimenting colors: vibrant aqua and/or pale blue.
  2. Ochre – always a wonderful fall color, but it needs some updating and while peeps tend to go with another earth tone, I want to keep it crisp.
Complimenting colors: Cobalt or bright fuchsia
  3. Leopard – I realize this is not a color. To be honest, I may get sick of this by the time I get around to buying anything in it. So. Skip. But.
Complimenting colors just in case: Chartreuse and bright jade or deep teal
  4. Purple – I think if I just keep the tone rich, I’m all good. I’d love to add a champagne brocade and navy to a pale purple though.

Wish me luck!

The budget bulges because I’ve bitten the bullet on the bulk of my wish list.

Sorry, I could not think of any b-words for “my wish list” to round out my alliterative verse.

Anywho, if you recall my initial wish list, it read like this:

  1. Lace dress
  2. Drop waist dress
  3. Faux leather jacket
  4. Leather driving gloves
  5. Boyfriend jeans
  6. Low heel suede booties
  7. Shiny metallic oxfords

Now that the summer heat relents and crispness bites at the air, I revise! Continue reading

Cape Fear

In my parallel life (the one in which I sip champagne at a rooftop restaurant and they use one of those crumber thingies between courses and Rufus Wainwright is my BFF), there are some bold fashion choices that I’d give a go; however, in my current life there is little need for. But sometimes those choices get made anyway, and I find myself in line at the pharmacy wearing studded epaulets and the gaunt stares of half a dozen octogenarians.

Something inside drives me to dress like a superhero. Continue reading

Fall Wish List

Dear Readers:

I have been so obsessed with browsing the Internets for new makeup that I’ve not even thought much about my closet. I am always taken aback by how misery-inducing color options and promo codes can be. It’s been hard to decide which deals to take for what products and what to leave on the table. Mostly, I’ve had to convince myself that I do not need every color of eyeshadow imaginable to replace my paraben-laden ones. A dialogue with my psyche that has yet to end, admittedly.
